Training Workshop for National and Local Governments in Southeast Asia and South Asia on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation

About 50 participants attended the Training Workshop for National and Local Governments in Southeast Asia and South Asia on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation co-organized by UNEP-ROAP, APAN and ICLEI. Among these, 30 are trainees including 24 from Southeast Asia (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam) and 6 from South Asia (Afghanistan, Bhutan and Nepal).

The training introduced to participants the climate change adaptation and mitigation concepts and definitions, technical and policy perspectives on climate change mitigation and adaptation, framing climate mitigation and adaptation in Asia, climate change impacts on urban systems in Asia. The participants were also learned and exercised different approaches on climate change adaptation and mitigation, such as vulnerability and risk assessment tools, harmonized emission analysis tool (HEAT+), and integrated climate impact assessment analysis tool for policy makers and planners. It also provided some best practices on climate change adaptation in Philippines such as community-based disaster risk reduction management in Dagupan city, adaptation planning in Albay and Sorogon cities.
