The workshop aimed at familiarising the participants with the impacts of climate change in the water and agriculture sectors in the mountains and coastal regions; the role of the media in raising climate change awareness and sharing knowledge on climate change impacts and possible adaptation highlights. Twenty four media representatives who are affiliated with leading media agencies from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka were attended.

The workshop began with the welcome address by Ms Roopa Rakshit (Adaptation Knowledge Platform) which was followed by Mr Joydeep Gupta (Third Pole Project), who briefed the participants on the outline of the workshop. Dr. Young-Woo Park (United Nations Environment Programme Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific) and Dr. Andreas Schild (ICIMOD) both gave the opening remarks discussing the importance of media to help raise awareness regarding climate change.

The first day had presentations by Mr Suppakorn Chinvanno (SEA START), Dr Dhrupad Choudhury (ICIMOD), Dr Arun Bhakta Shrestha (ICIMOD), Mr Daan Boom (ICIMOD), Mr Tek Jung Mahat (ICIMOD), and Mr Eak Rana (ICIMOD and FECONFUN/ Local Forest User Group representative). The interactive session was led by Mr Joydeep Gupta (Third Pole Project) and Mr Ramesh Bhushal (The Himalayan Times daily). The presentations and interaction sessions discussed the importance and role of media, methods of climate change adaptation, the community perceptions and responses to climate change impacts, and the current status in countries such as Bhutan, India, Nepal and the place such as Himalayan glaciers. On the first day, CCA web portal https://asiapacificadapt.net/ was also introduced by Ms. Jihyun Kim (Adaptation Knowledge Platform).

The second day of the workshop consisted of a one-day field trip provided the participants with the opportunity to engage in interactive discussions and witness the effects of climate change and adaptation practices in Nepal firsthand.

On the final day, presentations were made by Dr Ahmadul Hassan (CEGIS), Mr Kunda Dixit (Nepali Times) also presented the subject from a journalist’s point of view. Another round of interactive session based on the field trip was carried out by Mr Joydeep Gupta (Third Pole Project) and Mr Ramesh Bhushal (The Himalayan Times daily). The workshop was brought to an end by Dr Eklabya Sharma (ICIMOD) who gave the closing remarks.
