Significance of Forests: Means for Communities to Adapt

SHARE THIS PAGE:

As a least developed country with negligiblecarbon dioxide emissions, Nepal does not havemuch to do on the mitigation front. But, how couldthe country with such poverty invest in climatechange adaptation? One of the best sectors to startwould be forests. Of the 760 gigatons of carbonin the atmosphere, photosynthesis by terrestrialvegetation removes approximately 120 gigatons, almost 16 per cent of the atmospheric pool eachyear, and about half of the amount (56 Gt) is returnedannually by plant respiration.
