Bangkok – The Knowledge Management Workshop was organized on the theme “Harnessing Adaptation Knowledge in the Asia Pacific Region” on 28 February 2011 at the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel. The Adaptation Knowledge Management Workshop aimed at identifying knowledge partners to link regional climate change adaptation knowledge through a knowledge sharing system that promotes dialogue and improves the exchange of knowledge, information, and methods within and between countries on climate change adaptation, and to link existing and emerging networks and initiatives. Facilitating this linkage is the use of web portals that together help to bridge gaps between knowledge providers and users – in the end enabling all stakeholders to enact informed response to the challenges that climate change presents.
Young Woo Park, Regional Director of United Nations Environment Programme – Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (UNEP-ROAP) gave the welcome note address to all the participants, following which Mozaharul Alam, the moderator of the event, listed the objectives and the expected outcomes of the Workshop.
The workshop set the ball rolling with short presentations on Knowledge Management and Knowledge Management Models by various presenters from the Knowledge Community. To view and see who gave the presentations, please see our related files at the bottom of the page. There was also a short video presented by UNDP on its Knowledge Management website Adaptation Learning Mechanism (to view this video click here). After the presentations was the breakout session on climate change adaptation knowledge management, to identify strengths and gaps and suggestions for strengthening convergence through knowledge management. In this session, the participants were divided into six groups, and the outcomes of each group were facilitated by Ramesh Kumar Jahalan and Gernot Laganda.
Following this session, Robert W. Solar presented the Terms of Reference for the knowledge partners and was facilitated with an open discussion. After this, the floor was kept open for questions in relation to collaboration with partners and to look for the way forward. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Roopa Rakshit.
The workshop was co-organized by the Adaptation Knowledge Platform (AKP), Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN) and funded by Swedish International Development Cooperative Agency SIDA. There were more than fifty participants from Governmental, Inter-Governmental, Non-Governmental Organisations and also members from the Knowledge Community.
