Astana – The 6th Ministerial Conference on Environment and Development in Asia and the Pacific (MCED6) was hosted by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan from 27 September to 2 October 2010.

Astana – The 6^th Ministerial Conference on Environment and Development in Asia and the Pacific (MCED) was hosted by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan from 27 September to 2 October 2010.

During this conference, the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies together with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) – Regional Resource Center for Asia Pacific (RRC.AP) and the Regional Environment Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) organized a side event on “Integration of Climate Change Adaptation into Sustainable Development in Central Asia” to discuss the activity reports and the future direction of the UNEP-led Asia Pacific Adaptation Network in Central Asia on 29 September 2010. Researchers from five countries in Central Asia and representatives from international organizations such as UNEP and Asian Development Bank (ADB) participated and held enthusiastic discussions over four hours on various subjects including the state of adaptation in Central Asia.

Ms. Eldana Sadvakasova, Vice Minister of Environmental Protection of Republic of Kazakhstan; Dr. Young – Woo Park, UNEP Regional Director and Representative for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP); and Mr. Mahesh Pradhan, Director of UNEP RRC.AP gave the welcome address to the participants while the overview of the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network was given by Dr. Toshinao Okayama.

CAREC reported on the progress of activities of the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network in Central Asia and presented an outline and summary of the report entitled “Overview on Adaptation to Climate Change in Central Asia”.
