Fiji National University has won an international bid to implement a new project called Education for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (ECCAM).

The University has signed two agreements with the European Union to fund the project.

The head of the European Union in the Pacific, Andrew Jacobs, says it wants more students from the Pacific to participate in its educational programs.

“I must admit that until now that we have not seen a great number of students of universities from the Pacific participating in Erasmus Mundus and other programs.”

Jacobs says there will be more funding put through and people will need to make good use of it.

“From the first of January 2014 the program will cover the period 2014 – 2020 we will have a major budget, this is not just for the Pacific unfortunately of 14.7 billion Euros which is 36.9 Fijian dollars for students mobility.”

The FNU says there are also plans to develop a scheme that will bond candidates after their term of study, to ensure there is no immediate brain drain.
