Knowledge gaps in climate change, particularly in regard to the science and adaptation options continue to be a serious concern to policy makers constraining their ability to design effective policy action and programme to enhance adaptation. In the context of the Hindu Kush Himalayas, this is further accentuated by the gaps in knowledge and the challenges of effective communication between different stakeholders arising out of the physical inaccessibility and the vast geographical, cultural and socio-economic diversities of the mountain people inhabiting the Hindu Kush Himalayas. The lack of an effective flow of information and knowledge, thus, has emerged as a critical challenge for policy makers in ensuring effective policy action and practice to address adaptation needs of mountain communities. To bridge this information and knowledge gap, it is critical that effective communication approaches are identified and strengthened.

APAN-ICIMOD collaboration along with their partners will be organising a workshop on “Supporting Climate Change Policy Action in the HKH region: Strengthening Communication Approaches for Science-Policy-Practice interfacing” on 3-4 December in Kathmandu, Nepal. Policy-makers from the HKH mountainous countries will be attending the workshop along with other interested participants.
