Short Adaptation Courses on Adaptation Principles and Planning & Climate Information for Adaptation and Risk Communication

Bangkok – Short Adaptation Courses on Adaptation Principles and Planning & Climate Information for Adaptation and Risk Communication were held from October  5 to 9, 2009. The courses were taught by leading adaptation experts and aimed to strengthen the capacity of practitioners working on climate adaptation by enhancing their competence in adaptation planning and climate risk communication. This training created a basis on which adaptation practitioners in the region will share knowledge and build capacity to take robust decisions toward favourable adaptation pathways.

Stream 1: The topic ‘Adaptation Principles and Planning’ focused mainly on frameworks, concepts, robust decision making, decision-actions, networks, and adaptation pathways i.e. methodologies and approaches used to support organizations, networks, countries advance in the adaptation process. It helped the participants in better understanding the concept of adaptation to climate change, vulnerability, adaptive management, and approaches for robust decision making and community, sectoral and national-level  planning.

Stream 2: The topic ‘Climate Information for Adaptation and Risk Communication’ helped the participants to understand what climate change means in the region. They were also told about the type of information available to make locally appropriate adaptation decisions and the utility of tools for adaptive capacity building and risk communication.
