Consultative Meeting on Integration of Climate Change Adaptation into Sustainable Development in Central Asia
This event was held to discuss the activity reports and future direction of the UNEP-led Asia Pacific Adaptation Network in Central Asia. Researchers from five countries in Central Asia and representatives from international organisations such as UNEP and ADB participated and held enthusiastic discussions over about four hours on various subjects including the state of adaptation in Central Asia.
After the opening remarks by Vice Minister of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Director of the UNEP Regional office for Asia and the Pacific and the Director of AIT-UNEP RRC.AP, IGES, which serves as the Regional Hub for Asia Pacific Climate Change, gave a presentation summarising the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network.
Following this, CAREC reported on the progress of activities of the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network in Central Asia and presented an outline and summary of the report entitled "Overview on Adaptation to Climate Change in Central Asia".

IGES serves as the joint Regional Hub for Asia Pacific Adaptation Network, and as part of its activities carried out in conjunction with CAREC, continues to conduct research on adaptation in the Central Asian region, and as a result, aims to make a positive input into the process by the Interstate Commission for Sustainable Development of Central Asia (ISDC) of creating a "Sub-Regional Strategy on Vulnerability and Adaptation to Climate Change in Central Asia."
