Adaptation Knowledge Management: Brainstorming Workshop to Establish a Climate Change Knowledge Management Platform in Mongolia

In response to the need ofMongolia as suggested by theMongolianMinistry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry and the Mongolian State University of Agriculture (MSUA), the brainstorming workshop for the establishment of a national climate change knowledge management platform in Mongolia was held at the MSUA in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on 26 and 27 May 2011. The workshop was co-organised by the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network, Adaptation Knowledge Platform and MSUA.
Goal
Establishment of a national climate change knowledge management platform in Mongolia
Objectives
• Map out scientific and experience-based information and knowledge collected through research activities and on-ground adaption practices that would be relevant to adaptation planning;
• Share knowledge gaps in climate change adaptation that would pose as barriers in undertaking effective adaptation planning and implementing on-the-ground adaptation actions; and
• Discuss designing a national climate change knowledge management platform in Mongolia.
Outputs
The concept note on “the establishment of an information centre for climate change adaptation” was developed by the MSUA with the following concrete objectives:
• Increase public awareness about climate change and the contributions of the Centre to socio-economic development and the achievement of internationally agreed development goals including the MDGs;
• Provide an enabling environment for policies, laws and regulations conducive to the formation, growth and stability of the Centre;
• Link research, policy, and ‘on the ground’ action;
• Blend traditional/indigenous knowledge with science; and
• Develop certain methods to pass on the local knowledge
• The workshop also increased understanding on the importance on distributing and sharing
• The workshop further improved ideas on designing and managing a climate change knowledge management center among potential provides and users of climate change
