Description of Intervention
The economy of India is mainly dependent on natural resources. India has a 7500 km long densely populated coast line, which is vulnerable to coastal floods, erosion and cyclones. The project aims at reducing the vulnerability of coastal communities by creating awareness and carrying out pilot activities helping in improving infrastructure and decision making of local governance bodies.

Vulnerability of coastal communities to climate related disasters
Aims
To establish processes and structures that reduce the vulnerabilities of coastal communities to climate change risks and strengthen their capacities to assess, plan and respond to climate related challenges
Objectives
• To formulate and distribute guiding documents for climate change adaptation in rural coastal communities;
• To develop and carry out pilot initiatives to reduce vulnerabilities of the communities by providing improved infrastructure;
• To improve capacities and decision making skills of local bodies and coastal communities and increase skill level of marginalized poor local population; and
• To create public awareness and increase regional visibility of the project and stimulate networking.
How it fits into the EbA concept
The project addresses the challenges of adaptation of coastal communities by engagement with the people as well the governance bodies in an effort to ensure that their capacities to address the adaptation challenges at present and in future are enhanced, hence fitting into the CCA concept.
