Description of Intervention

Delineation of areas into different zones based on hazard levels; and development of a hazard and vulnerability map

Problems to be Addressed

Impacts of potentially dangerous glacial lakes in Pho Chu and the surrounding settlements and infrastructure.

Aims

The Bhutan Department of Geology and Mines-The Netherlands Climate Assistance Program (DGM-NCAP) project is to prepare a hazard zonation map that covers the entire area along the Puna Tsang Chu with a hazard map for GLOFs in the future.

Objectives

The DGM-NCAP project is to prepare a hazard zonation map that covers the entire area along the Puna Tsang Chu with a hazard map for GLOFs in the future.

How it fits into the EbA concept

These maps are expected to aid planners and decision makers for planning of future developmental projects in the region and also as a guide for local bodies so as to minimize damage.
