Description of Intervention

Providing information needed to support decision making to ensure water availability.

Problems to be Addressed

The Indus basin is water stressed; livelihood is based on Agriculture, which in turn depends on irrigation. Project will try to address climate change induced water stress and impacts on livelihood.

Aims

To support detailed monitoring of snow, ice and water resources in the region through capacity building and establishment of appropriate systems.

Objectives

• To establish systems for monitoring the status and changes over time of snow, ice and water resources in two pilot catchments in the Indus Basin;
• Capacity Building of institutions on monitoring snow, ice and water resources using remote sensing and field based techniques;
• To d evelop water availability scenarios for the Indus basin, based on the enhanced database and using state of the art models and techniques; and
• Promote awareness and use of the advanced knowledge base on the status and changes of snow, ice and water in the Indus basin.

How it fits into the EbA concept

The project involves monitoring of snow, ice and water resource and awareness creation and establishment of appropriate system which is very necessary for the water stressed state. Hence it rightly fits into the CCA concept.
