Description of Intervention
The project would help to develop capabilities of local level institutions to undertake measures in warding off effects on human and economic development of these vulnerable areas and population.
The project would address the integration of GLOF risk management into the processes, policies and plans of institutions including the Ministry of Environment and National Disaster Management Authority.
Problems to be Addressed
Need for integrating GLOF risk management in states disaster management plans.
Aims
To prepare approximately 15,000 people residing in the remote area of Bagrot valley to understand the nature and extent of GLOF risk in the area and to save lives and livelihood of the people of that area.
Objectives
• Human and technical capacity building of public institutions to understand and address immediate GLOF risks for vulnerable communities in Northern Pakistan; and
• To enable vulnerable local communities in northern areas of Pakistan to better understand and respond to GLOF risks and thereby adapt to growing climate change pressures.
How it fits into the EbA concept
Extreme melting of the glacier in Hindukush region has and can lead to unprecedented flooding. The project, by integrating risk management to the policies in various relevant organisatons helps in adapting to the risks of flood.
