Description of Intervention
Adaptation to climate requires a two tier approach addressing the issues of environmental sustainability as well as livelihood improvement. The project aims to achieve these twin objectives by investing in natural resource management and rural development and by providing access to micro insurance and weather derivatives for climate risk management. The project envisages to replicate the successes and lessons learnt at the micro level into state and national policy making.
Problems to be Addressed
Issues related to the adaptive capacity of rural communities in drought prone areas
Aims
To improve the livelihoods and adaptive capacities of the vulnerable rural communities to the adverse impacts of climate variability and change
Objectives
• The public investment programmes for natural resource management and rural development (watershed and forestry management) implement the core elements of climate change adaptation; and
• Rural communities have access to innovative financial instruments, i.e. micro insurance and weather derivatives for climate risk management.
How it fits into the EbA concept
By enhancing the adaptive capacity of rural communities to the impacts of climate change by improving livelihood, the project qualifies for the CCA concept.
