Community-based Adaptation to Climate Change

Description of Intervention

The southern coastal belt of Bangladesh, Sunderbans, is home to several communities and biodiversity. The increased intensity and frequency of climatic events will put the lives of these communities as well as their livelihoods at stake.

The project seeks to build community level adaptive capacity and to reduce climate change risks that communities face, and in turn to influence policy and institutional arenas to facilitate sustainable community management of natural resources.

The project will focus on community interventions to sustainably manage the ecosystems on which water and agriculture sectors are based.

Objectives

Natural resource management practices improved in Bangladesh to reduce the vulnerability to climate change impacts and increase the capacity of communities and key ecosystems to adapt to climate change

How it fits into the EbA concept

Protecting natural resources will in turn secure the livelihood of people. It will reduce the vulnerability of people to the impacts of climate change. Apart from this, the project also intends to increase the adaptive capacity of communities.
