The Government of Niger, Clean Energy Nepal and the Permanent Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS), in association with the joint UNDP/UNEP NAP-GSP team and partners, are supporting a side event at COP20 Lima, entitled: ‘NATIONAL ADAPTATION PLANS: Preparing least developed countries to address climate risk’.

The side event is on Thursday 4 December 2014, Paracas Room, 1.15-2.45pm.

If you are present at COP20, and available attend the event, we warmly invite you. About the event: Government speakers from Niger, other African and Asian countries, civil society representatives, and regional and international experts will discuss challenges and opportunities for mainstreaming adaptation into planning and budgeting through capacity building in LDCs. Key themes include; getting ready for climate finance, preparing the institutional set-up for adaptation planning, and acquiring the skills necessary for supporting the process.

• Dr Kamayé Maâzou (UNFCCC FP, Niger): Mainstreaming climate change into development planning – opportunities and challenges for the NAP process
• Dr Djimé Adoum, (Exec. Sec., CILSS): Strengthening climate information systems to reduce food insecurity
• Mr. Sunil Acharya (Program Director, Clean Energy Nepal): The role of civil society in building climate finance readiness and connecting to the NAP process
• NAP GSP team: Emerging lessons on supporting countries from the NAP-GSP
• Panel discussion and Q&A with government speakers from Niger, Cambodia, Comoros and Malawi (Facilitated by Angus Mackay, UNITAR)
