Climate Summit for a Living Himalayas, Nov 19, Thimpu, Bhutan

Realizing the urgency to develop mechanisms todeal with the impacts of climate change leaders ofBangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal have decidedto come together at the ‘Climate Summit for aLiving Himalayas Bhutan 2011’ being hosted by theRoyal Government of Bhutan on 14 October 2011in Thimphu, Bhutan. This summit is convened bythe Governments of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India andNepal with support from the World Wide Fund forNature (WWF), MacArthur, ICIMOD, the UN Food andAgriculture Organization (FAO), the UN DevelopmentProgramme (UNDP), and the International Fundfor Agricultural Development (IFAD). The primaryagenda for the summit is to – outline a 10-yearroadmap for adaptation to climate change; developa proposal to secure all of the eastern Himalaya’stemperate and alpine forests and grasslands forensuring biodiversity persistence and maintaining ecosystem services; and create regional “adaptationexpert groups.”
