Consultative Meeting on Integration of Climate Change Adaptation into Sustainable Development in Mongolia
The consultative meeting aimed to identify the gaps and needs in adaptation knowledge in Mongolia, provide a road-map for good adaptation practices in Mongolia, and apply the knowledge and lessons learnt from Mongolia to other similar ecosystems such as the ones in the Central Asia.
The meeting was attended by high-level officials in Mongolia, including Head of the President Office, Policy Advisor to the President and Special Envoy on Climate Change, government officials from Ministry of Nature, Environment and Tourism, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Industry, Ministry of Health, researchers in Mongolia, and representatives of international organisations and donor agencies.
At the meeting’s conclusion, the Network was able to (i) share the latest information about the impacts of the climate change on Mongolia, (ii) convey the need for an institution which could function as the “hub” of existing multi-disciplinary data analysis and adaptation knowledge integration, (iii) raise the water issues as an emerging concern in Mongolia, (iv) highlight the need to study vulnerability of coupled human-environmental systems, (v) emphasise the need for improved forecasting of climate change and vulnerability of social-ecological systems for adaptation policy development, and (vi) present published proceedings of the meeting.
