The Adaptation Knowledge Platform has carried out a pilot project in Nepal “Knowledge packaging for building the resilience of mountain people and local governments” in partnership with Nepal Climate Change Knowledge Management Center (NCCKMC) and the Resources Himalaya Foundation. The project aims to increase the awareness on climate related problems among vulnerable mountain people in Ramechhap district and to enhance the understanding on the role of local governments in building the resilience of the vulnerable groups as well as planning methods and institutional mechanisms appropriate for the integration of adaptation issues faced by the vulnerable groups into local development plans. The specific activities planned are:

1. To organize a climate awareness raising activity and develop information material that has easily understandable knowledge to help build resilience of the most vulnerable communities to climatic variability;

2.To develop a policy brief that demonstrates on 1) what they can help to climate vulnerable groups; 2) how they can address climate related issues in their local planning mechanisms; and 3) what specific methods are appropriate for the integration in their plan and programs; and

3.To share findings of the activities with the central level government authorities, in specific the National Planning Commission and Climate Change Council

 As part of the activities, a policy consultation workshop was held in Kathmandu on 10 May 2012. The workshop disseminated to more than 50 policy makers, practitioners and researchers findings from the activities including the current climate-related problems faced by local people in Ramechhap district, their responses to the problems and gaps in, and needs for, institutionalisation of a planning mechanism appropriate for the integration of adaptation issues in their local development plans. The workshop also collected extensive comments from the participants on the policy brief prepared based on the above findings.
