UN Secretary-General Highlights Indigenous Knowledge for Climate Change Adaptation

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, addressing the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (16 to 27 May 2011), pointed out that indigenous peoplen have been living a ‘green economy’ for centuries and learning from them is the key to achieving sustainable development. The forum focused on reviewing the progress made on issues ranging from economic and social development to environment, and whether indigenous people have given free, prior and informed consent to decisions affecting their communities.
