Review of Climate Change Adaptation Practices in South Asia

SHARE THIS PAGE:

Climate change is set to have severe consequencesfor South Asia, particularly in agriculture, whichemploys morethan 60 percent ofthe region’s laborforce. Adaptationefforts in SouthAsia have so farbeen fragmented, lacking a stronglink betweennational climatechange strategiesand plans, andexisting disasterrisk reduction, agricultural, andother relevantpolicies. Thisdisconnect partly stems from a lack of conceptualunderstanding and partly from the ongoing debate asto what constitutes adaptation and what representsgood and sustainable development. Focusing onfive countries in the region (Bangladesh, India,Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka), this review capturesexamples of good practice in climate changeadaptation programming, in order to inform Oxfam’slearning, enabling it and other organizations toreplicate some of these good practices in their ownprograms, and to advocate their adequate financingand governance.
