Integrating Climate Change Science into Development Planning: Understanding the Findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report 2007

Climate change is among this century’s gravest challenges, particularly for developing countries, which are both vulnerable to a range of adverse impacts and lack the adaptive capacity to deal with them. Although a wealth of scientific information is available on projected changes in climate as well as observed and expected impacts, this information often does not reach policymakers in developing countries in formats that are easy to understand and implement. Better communication at the science-policy interface is urgently needed to enable policymakers and other stakeholders in developing countries to use up-todate scientific information to guide national and local development and poverty reduction policies and actions. The science-policy dialogue held at the Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon in Dhaka on 9-11 February was designed to address this need. It was one of 9 such dialogues being organized across three regions under the project Understanding the Findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report, Climate Change 2007 – Integrating Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Development Planning.
