Good Adaptation Projects and Practices in South Asia

SHARE THIS PAGE:

Adaptation has been viewed from various angles over time. Different definitions carry with them different emphases. The IPCC Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) defines adaptation as the “adjustment in natural or human systems in response to actual or expected climatic stimuli or their effects, which moderates harm or exploits beneficial opportunities” (IPCC, 2007). As such, adaptation is an iterative process that requires an extensive and continuously updated knowledge on a wide spectrum of socioeconomic activities across different vulnerable sectors. One of the setbacks in the progress of climate change adaptation initiatives in the South Asia is the lack of comprehensive knowledge that could serve for planning and implementing adaptation measures needed. The report provides an overview of the progress on adaptation in the South Asian sub-region. Practices once documented could serve as reference guidebook to highlight innovative practices and scalable model projects.
