Ecosystem Services in the National Adaptation Programmes of Action

This article examines the extent to which ecosystem services have been considered in the National Adaptation Programmes of Action (NAPAs) and the proposed adaptation projects. It indicates that the importance of ecosystem services is recognized in more than 50 percent of the NAPAs and that about 22 percent of the proposed projects suggest ecosystem activities for social well-being or adaptation, the majority of which relate to regulating services such as soil rehabilitation and erosion control as well as provisioning services such as food, fiber and fuel wood.
