Adapting to Climate Change in China: Achievements and Challenges

With millions of people dependent on naturalresources and agriculture, China is very vulnerableto climate change. Now, the need to adapt to futurechanges is gaining importance in the country’spolitical agenda. The government’s latest five-yearplan, for example, is the first to include a sectionon adaptation, and the development of a nationaladaptation strategy is under way. But there arestill major gaps in the knowledge and processesrequired to develop effective adaptation policies atnational and local levels. This brief describes someof the key challenges, and explains how initiativessuch as Adapting to Climate Change in China(ACCC) are addressing them.
