The project "Strengthening Adaptation Capacities and Minimizing Risks of Vulnerable Coastal  Communities in India" (AdaptCap) aims at increasing knowledge, planning and adaptation capacities of coastal communities concerning climate change adaptation (CCA), disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change mitigation (CCM) in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, India.

Implementing Organisation:

AdaptCap is implemented by the Indo-German Environment Partnership (IGEP) Programme of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in partnership with AVVAI Village Welfare Society (AVVAI) in Tamil Nadu, Academy of Gandhian Studies (AGS) in Andhra Pradesh and the international partners adelphi and ICLEI South Asia.

GIZ-IGEP is a joint programme of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) Government of India and the Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The programme aims to support the Indian government in improving urban and industrial environmental management and developing further environment and climate policies.

AVVAI, an NGO located in Tamil Nadu, executes programmes on disaster risk reduction and post-disaster rehabilitation, livelihood promotion, natural resource management and climate change adaptation in Tamil Nadu.

AGS is an NGO located in Andhra Pradesh promoting and implementing projects for disaster risk reduction and post-disaster rehabilitation, livelihood promotion, natural resource management and climate change adaptation.

adelphi is a leading think tank for policy analysis and strategy consulting offering creative solutions and services on global environment and development challenges for policy, business and civil society communities.

ICLEI South Asia is the South Asian regional chapter of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. ICLEI aims to build and serve a regional network of local governments to achieve tangible improvements in regional and global sustainability through cumulative local actions.
