Description of Intervention

Three projects have been identified under the Seed Grant Program. These are:
• Past and Future Climate Assessments of Livestock Vulnerability in Nepal (CALVN): The overall goal of the project are to complete country-wide climate analysis, map livestock production in climate vulnerable areas, and provide training related to livestock management and feeding practices to help farmers adapt and respond to climate change.

• Capacity Building and Strengthening of Livestock Production Systems while Adapting to Climate Change in Nepal (SLPS): This project aims to identify factors that might be the cause of decline in the livestock production system. The project will be focused in the Nuwakot district in the mid-hills region of Nepal.

• Livestock, Livelihoods, and Climate Change Interaction: This project would investigate the emerging animal health issues that livestock keepers are experiencing and the impacts of these issues on are having on livestock production.

Aims

The basic aims of the project are:
• To carry out a countrywide climate analysis and map livestock production in climate vulnerable parts of the country;
• Capacity Building and Strengthening of Livestock Production Systems while Adapting to Climate Change; and
• Investigating the emerging health issues of livestock in lieu of a changing climate.

Objectives

To improve the livelihoods of small-scale livestock producers impacted by climate change

How it fits into the EbA concept

Considering that 70% of Nepal’s households depend on livestock production for a significant part of their income and the vulnerability of Nepal to a climate change risks, the current research is an attempt to improve the livelihoods of small-scale livestock producers impacted by climate change.
